Tank Commander - e4

Tank Commander

Tank Commander is a mockumentary featuring Edinburgh based stand up Greg McHugh as Gary McLintoch, an army officer on leave from duty in Iraq. The camera follows Gary as he reveals what life is really like for a soldier - accidentally shooting kittens and playing Erasure at checkpoints.

Perhaps the first comic look at the troops in the Gulf, Tank Commander ably demonstrates that there’s humour somewhere, in any situation.

Tank CommanderIn this 10 minute glimpse into the mind and musings of a tank commander, Gary chats amiably to camera about his experiences as he indulges in some R & R time in his native Edinburgh.

Along the way he poses some pertinent questions such as how come nobody in the army seems to have met the most famous tank commander of the moment, James Blunt?

He takes us back to the tank, shares his combat recollections and mulls over the differences between everyday life in Edinburgh and the life of a soldier, coming to the conclusion that the main difference between the two is the quality of the milk.

Tank CommanderThis is the first venture into television for Greg McHugh with a character that evolved out of his routine at The Stand comedy club in Edinburgh. Spotted by the Comedy Unit, the character then had his second outing at the Rough Cuts evening run by the company who regularly preview material at their local comedy club in Glasgow. Tank Commander was devised in conjunction with director Will Andrews, also a stand up comedian, who works as part of the Comedy Unit’s development team.
